2014 Well Underway

Things have been good so far this year.  Coach Jesse and I have been working on my weaknesses and with the help of swim guru Cody Flegel I really feel I have been doing the right things this winter so far.

Every year brings new opportunity and excitement and this year is no different.  Each year I progress as an athlete and 2014 will be no different – another year of personal bests.

I am focusing on races outside the Ironman brand this year.  After last years inaugural Challenge Penticton I have nothing but great things to say about the Challenge Family.   And I am very excited to have Penticton lined up as my A-Race for the season.  I will also test out the flat and fast course over in Atlantic City in June.  I have never done a race with a course this flat, but I am looking forward to it now to get data from my new Power Meter.

This is the first time in my career that I have been able to train with a Power Meter.  The Quarq CinQo is what I am now using and enjoying very much.  It truly is a different world with Power numbers on your bike computer screen.

Perhaps one of the most exciting things for me this year is my new support team.  Purica has taken me on board and I am very thankful for this.  I use their mushrooms extensively and truly believe in the science and ancient history of these products.  Also, this will be my first full year as a QT2 Systems athlete (and coach, very soon).   QT2 Systems is an amazing team and has a great support group.  Getting to represent top companies like Blue Seventy, Shimano, Pearl Izumi, SaltStick, Rudy Project, NormaTec and FuelBelt is an honour and absolutely invaluable to my success as an athlete.

With my son’s 3rd birthday approaching I am reminded of how fast time flies.  But I am also reminded of how important it is to stick to your goals and chase your dreams.  My career in the sport of triathlon is still young and I look forward to the journey.  But in the meantime I am more focused on each day and each week of training.  Speaking of which, the forecast here for the next 3-4 days is sunny and 10deg C, and that is absolutely perfect for what my training schedule has line up.

Well, that’s a good blurb about my thoughts at this point in time.  I will wait to hear from my Mother about any typos I have written – no time for that now, onto the next important task.

Happy Training,

Adam
